Clowning Around

Head Spaces

Doreen Dubreuil

Sculpture / Assemblage

Clowning Around examines the contrast between public performance and inner complexity through a brightly colored, densely beaded clown’s head. The playful pop-art aesthetic and humorous slogans initially suggest lighthearted entertainment, but the intricate patterns and layered symbols reveal deeper reflections on identity, masks, and emotional vulnerability. By combining whimsy with introspection, the sculpture invites viewers to look beyond surface humor and consider the complex roles and personas people adopt in everyday life.
