Quack Doctor

Head Spaces

Doreen Dubreuil

Sculpture / Assemblage

This sculpture uses playful, toy-like materials and humor to explore deeper themes of vulnerability, identity, and social anxiety. While its bright colors, duck bill, and decorative surfaces suggest whimsy and amusement, the presence of a medical stethoscope introduces ideas of examination, control, and unease. The head becomes both mask and portrait, suggesting that identity is constructed, performed, and often disguised behind cheerfulness. By balancing absurdity with subtle discomfort, the work reflects on how humor and spectacle are used to cope with fear and scrutiny in contemporary life.
